Este pequeño e inspirador libro nos habla de los obstáculos que han sobrellevado y superado personas reconocidas de distintas partes del mundo, como artistas, deportistas, modelos, directores de cine, activistas y de cómo, antes de llegar hasta donde están, fueron personas como nosotros que no se salvaron de algo que seguramente todos hemos vivido: el bullying.

Así que aquí conoceremos las historias de estos personajes que convirtieron su defecto en una de sus grandes fortalezas, y de cómo decidieron que esas singularidades eran parte de su encanto para explotar al máximo su potencial, resistiendo a la presión social de modificarlos para hacerles encajar en un molde definido y aceptable para los demás.

A muchos de estos personajes ya los conoces, como Tom Holland, que se dedicaba al ballet profesional y lo molestaban por eso, o a Taylor Swift, que nunca fue la chica más popular y la hacían a un lado, aunque ella decidió convertir su dolor en música. Otras historias serán verdaderos descubrimientos, como para mí lo fue leer que a Guillermo del Toro lo exorcizaron dos veces por sus gustos excéntricos y las inclinaciones poco convencionales que mostraba hacia los monstruos.

Muchas de estas personas han buscado inspirar a los demás y aprovechando sus recursos económicos o su voz que resuena por todas partes para ayudar a quienes más lo necesitan y luchan para que las personas se acepten a sí mismas tal y como son.

Me gustó mucho que busca crear consciencia en los niños de que las palabras hirientes pueden lastimar a los demás y que por eso debemos ser muy cuidadosos con lo que decimos. Sin embargo, las palabras amables pueden hacer sentir bien a alguien y podemos lograr mucho más que una sonrisa del otro. Solo tenemos que elegir hacia dónde vamos a dirigir el poder de nuestras palabras 🙂 

También me pareció un acierto que la lectura tenga la intención de hacer reflexionar a los niños sobre el papel que han llegado a tener en el acoso escolar (acosador, acosado o espectador) y que tengan la certeza de que sea cual sea su posición, siempre pueden hacer algo al respecto para que éste problema remita, lo que también les lleva a generar empatía hacia las personas que los rodean.

En la escuela te pueden molestar por cualquier cosa, como por tener dientes grandes (como a Freddie Mercury), por tartamudear (como a Rowan Atkison), por tener un trastorno que te hace diferente (como a Greta Thunberg), por tu color de piel, por tu estatura, por tus hobbies o gustos excéntricos (como a Guillermo del Toro) y hasta por ser demasiado simpática, como le pasó a Kate Middleton. En mi caso una de las numerosas causas por las que me molestaban fue por mi abundante cabello rizado, que, curiosamente, ahora es uno de los rasgos físicos que más me caracterizan y por la que muchas personas me elogian.
