Sinopsis del libro

Al igual que otros escritores de su tiempo, Charles Dickens no fue ajeno al gran interés que despertaron en su época el espiritismo y los fenómenos sobrenaturales relacionados con el más allá. Fruto de ello fueron varios cuentos que tienen como fondo la atmósfera lúgubre, misteriosa, escalofriante y, a veces, terrorífica propia de este mundo crepuscular, protagonizados por personajes o espíritus inquietantes o siniestros. Esta recopilación, (publicada asimismo en otra colección como “El guardavía y otros cuentos de miedo) reúne los relatos más renombrados y brillantes del autor dentro de esta parcela.

Charles Dickens (1812-1870) es uno de los grandes narradores ingleses de todos los tiempos. Entre sus obras más conocidas se cuentan: Tiempos difíciles, Grandes esperanzas, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, La tienda de antigüedades, Historia de dos ciudades y Canción de Navidad.

¡Empezamos nuestro especial de Halloween de Octubre! Creo que de los especiales que hago a lo largo del año, este es el que más me entusiasma. Los thrillers y libros de miedo siempre me han gustado, y las mejores plumas de este género estimulan mis sentidos y mi imaginación que siempre disfruto mucho.

Este mes intenté seleccionar una buena variedad para compartir: cuentos cortos, clásicos y contemporáneos del género (además de que siempre era el pretexto perfecto porque ya les traía muchas ganas a todos).

Para abrir este especial escogí “Cuentos de miedo” de Charles Dickens. Debo reconocer que me sentí irremediablemente atraída por esta preciosa edición color menta de Alianza, y por esa portada que en mi opinión ilustra perfectamente el contenido inquietante de sus historias ambientadas en siglos pasados.

Al ser una lectora experimentada en los thrillers, me averguenza un poco reconocer que empecé esta lectura sin esperar las emociones intensas que me despiertan los thrillers contemporáneos y modernos (no sé porque). Más bien lo tomé porque al no leer con frecuencia clásicos quise familiarizarme un poco más con la pluma de Dickens, de quien solamente había leído Canción de Navidad. Y quedé bastante sorprendida con lo que encontré.

Algunos de estos cuentos cortos están inspirados en la tradición de contar historias de terror en la noche de Navidad (eso también explica su famoso relato “Canción de Navidad” que tiene un estilo muy parecido a las historias presentadas en este libro, acerca de fantasmas que interactúan con el plano terrenal), incluso algunos de estos cuentos están ambientados en esta fecha. 

 

Charles Dickens no escatima en descripciones para llevarte a los oscuros y perturbadores lugares que crea con su pluma, transportándote a esos sitios inquietantes que me dejaban una sensación incluso corporal que me acompañaba a lo largo del día. Extraño. Sigo pensando que este autor es un verdadero maestro para contar historias, tiene una integridad de novelista impecable (como dice Virginia Woolf). El miedo que despiden las páginas de sus libros es contagioso… 

 

Sus historias te dejan pensando en los inevitables asuntos pendientes que dejan las personas cuando mueren, y que, en el imaginario colectivo, son las razones por las que se resisten a descansar y abandonar el sitio al que no pertenecen más. También te hace reflexionar acerca del miedo, del dolor, y de las emociones complejas que nos despiertan aquello que es inexplicable…

Pienso que es una de las lecturas perfectas para el mes, y para los amantes de la literatura de terror y thriller que quieren empezar a leer clásicos, este es un total acierto. Te encantará
