Sinopsis del libro:

Armando Fuentes Aguirre, “Catón”, es reconocido como el articulista más leído de México. En todo el país los lectores buscan con avidez sus breves textos, al mismo tiempo amenos y profundos. Una frase resume el sentimiento de quien lo escribió: “Si hubiese sabido antes lo que es ser abuelo, hubiera tenido primero a mis nietos y luego a mis hijos”.

¡Hoy es el día del abuelo! Una fecha que no es muy conocido ni celebrada, aunque sí debería. Así que me pareció el marco perfecto para compartir mi reseña de este libro que desde el título desborda ternura: “De abuelitas, abuelitos y otros ángeles benditos” de Catón.

Debo decir que es el primer libro que leo de él aunque sé que tiene muchísimos y me pareció un libro hermoso, muy personal, en el que comparte sus experiencias siendo abuelo, desde las divertidas ocurrencias de sus nietos hasta las profundas  lecciones de vida que los pequeños le han enseñado sin siquiera proponérselo (porque, como sabemos, es uno de sus grandes encantos y hasta Catón dice que los niños y los sabios comparten la misma sabiduría)  haciendo breves pero profundas reflexiones sobre lo que tener nietos ha significado para él.

Catón tiene ni más ni menos que diez nietos, con quienes ha aprendido que ser abuelo es la mejor manera de ser padre. Y aunque no menciona sus nombres es evidente que habla de cada uno de ellos, de cómo le conmueve su inocencia, su curiosidad y sus ganas de conocer el mundo. Escribe de la forma en que le maravilla cómo es que las pequeñas criaturas poseen la sabiduría del agradecimiento, que veces los grandes olvidamos, cómo es que ellos saben vivir y disfrutar el presente, el aquí y el ahora, a diferencia de nosotros que siempre nos sentimos frustrados por un pasado que no podemos cambiar o cómo nos angustia un futuro incierto por el que no tiene sentido que nos arrebatemos la tranquilidad.

También toca temas interesantes como lo sublimado que está el amor a primera vista, el amor apasionado que vivimos cuando somos jóvenes (que es importante y arrebatador, claro está) , pero que nadie se acuerda del amor que viene hasta la última mirada, después de muchos años de verse cada día, del amor que ha sobrevivido a través de los años, de lo valioso y reconfortante que es tener un compañero de vida que te dio hijos, apoyo en toda circunstancia, alguien con quien puedes envejecer y disfrutar de los nietos. Escribe columnas en las que reflexiona (y te hace reflexionar a ti) sobre el ciclo de la vida, que la muerte ya no te preocupa tanto porque puedes ver en los ojos de los nietos tu propia inmortalidad, y de cómo, sin darte cuenta, pasas de la edad de pasión a la edad de la pensión.

Nunca había leído un libro como éste y me pareció que también lo hizo como un legado para sus nietos, para que cuando ellos crezcan y lo lean se reconozcan en sus páginas y le recuerden con la misma nostalgia y cariño con la que él les escribe, porque él dice que no quiere regalar a sus nietos cosas ni dinero, porque solo son eso: cosas y dinero, que vienen y van, a diferencia de los abuelos, que ellos sí se van. Así que quiere regalarles algo que no olviden: recuerdos.

Es una lectura que te hace pensar en tus propios abuelos, en lo que tu significas para ellos aunque quizá nunca te lo dijeron (o te lo dicen, si tienes la suerte de tenerlos físicamente todavía) con palabras pero te lo expresaban a su manera, con una mirada, con un consejo, con un paseo en el que te tomaban de la mano mientras paseaban por el parque o con una moneda que te daban a escondidas como si te estuvieran dando cosas ilegales, con las adivinanzas y las anécdotas que comparten contigo…

En fin, es una lectura tan bonita que quisiera compartir con todos los abuelitos que se me atraviesen. Desde que empecé a leerlo no pude evitar pensar: ¡Ya quiero tener nietos!

Léelo, estoy segura de que, igual que me pasó a mí, hay cosas que no volverás a ver igual y te despertará mucha nostalgia (ah, y me parece un excelente detalle para regalar a tus abuelitos o los abuelitos de tus hijos, con una dedicatoria bonita 😉 ).
