LA LADRONA DE LIBROS

Sinopsis del libro:

Érase una vez un pueblo donde las noches eran largas y la muerte contaba su propia historia. En el pueblo vivía una niña que quería leer, un hombre que tocaba el acordeón, y un joven judío que escribía cuentos hermosos para escapar del horror de la guerra. Al cabo de un tiempo, la niña se convirtió en una ladrona que robaba libros y regalaba palabras. Con éstas se escribió una historia hermosa y cruel que ahora ya es una novela inolvidable.

Hoy es el día internacional de conmemoración en memoria de las víctimas del holocausto, según la declaración oficial emitida por la asamblea general de la ONU, y ya sabes que aquí tenemos la manía de tener un libro para cada ocasión, así que, aunque es ficción histórica, “La ladrona de libros” está ambientada en la segunda guerra mundial y los protagonistas son alemanes (muchos de los cuales también fueron víctimas de ésta terrible etapa de la historia). Además de que yo no puedo resistirme a una buena novela ambientada en la segunda guerra mundial, y de los que he publicado varias reseñas en el blog 🙂

La narradora de esta novela, es la protagonista de cualquier guerra, sin importar el tiempo ni el lugar, una narradora perfecta para una de las épocas de la historia más sangrientas, crueles y despiadadas a nivel mundial… La mismísima muerte. Así que observamos el horror de ese tiempo a través de esos escrutadores ojos que intentan comprender porque el ser humano se conduce por la vida de esa manera tan absurda, sin darse cuenta de que invariablemente el final de su destino es correr, quizá antes de tiempo, hacia ella. Una perspectiva original y muy, muy interesante.

La ladrona de libros, como que comentado, está ambientada en plena segunda guerra mundial en la Alemania nazi, cuya protagonista es Liesel Meminger, una niña desaliñada de 9 años que es dada en adopción por su madre. Su nueva familia, está integrada por Hans (un hombre encantador con el que no es difícil encariñarse) y su esposa Rosa (una mujer de modos bruscos y toscos que contrastan bastante con los de Hans) son personas sencillas que no comparten los ideales del nazismo y cuya hasta ahora apacible vida está a punto de cambiar por sostener una promesa hecha hace muchos años…

Liesel aprende a leer y encuentra entre las páginas de los libros, el refugio que necesita para afrontar el terror de los bombardeos, los prejuicios de la sociedad, la tristeza de no tener a su mamá… Por lo que cuando inician la quema de libros, ella se desconcierta ante tal atrocidad. Pero a través de los libros (que consigue de maneras arriesgadas) escapa de todo esto y en cierta forma consigue hacer que muchos también lo hagan. Son como la luz en la oscuridad, ese rayito incipiente al que aferrarse cuando todo parece perdido.

La historia tiene personajes entrañables que se quedan en tu memoria para siempre… Rudy Steiner, el niño del pelo color limón que se enamora de Liesel desde el primer momento y que le hizo ver que si hay algo peor que un chico que te odie, es un chico que te ame, Max, quién le enseña a hacer suyas las palabras y la inspira a seguir leyendo, Hans, el paciente, cálido y amoroso padre que Liesel nunca tuvo… En fin, estoy convencida de que se convertirá en uno de tus libros favoritos por numerosas razones.

Es una novela hermosa, un tesoro que no por nada ha conseguido hacerse un espacio en el corazón exigente de miles de lectores. Markus Zusak también sabe hacer suyas las palabras. Su pluma es increíble, sencilla y profunda a la vez. Te transporta a momentos realmente duras que consiguen robarte el aliento en más de una ocasión. Es de los pocos títulos que para mí vale la pena leer y releer. Tiene unas frases memorables que encierran tanto en tan pocas palabras, que se quedan en ti indefinidamente.

Tiene esa manera tan elocuente y emocionante de hablar de los libros, el amor profundo que expresa hacia las mismas palabras y su capacidad de destruirte o de salvarte que me eriza la piel y reafirma su poder. Un poder que tú mismo puedes hacer fluir y con el que puedes experimentar, dándole sentido a tantas cosas que quizá de otra manera no podrías descubrir.

 

Otra de las razones por las que amo este libro es porque el final es increíble, está a la altura de toda la historia, lo terminas y te sientes tentado a levantarte y quitarte el sombrero.

Yo vi la adaptación en el cine antes de leer en el libro, y aunque muchos no coinciden conmigo, la verdad me parece una adaptación digna (que por supuesto omite muchas cosas porque el libro es bastante extenso), creo que el reparto estuvo a la altura, transmite la esencia del libro (objetivo que en mi opinión es difícil que consiga una adaptación) y también es una de mis películas favoritas.

La ladrona de libros es mi libro favorito de ficción histórica (bueno, de todos, está en la lista de mis top) y me encanta recomendarlo porque es de esos libros de los que no sales siendo el mismo. Te cambia la perspectiva, te lleva a los lugares atestados de dolor y desesperanza, de los que muchas veces el alivio de ese dolor y esa dosis de esperanza que necesitas para sobrevivir, puede venir de donde menos lo esperas y hasta de lo que pudiera parecer insignificante, irrelevante… Todo está en la manera de mirar.
