Ahí se traslada con un grupo de asistentes dispuestos a pasar una temporada en ella: Theodora, una joven entusiasta, la tímida y frágil Eleanor y Luke, el futuro heredero de la propiedad. Será mejor que el lector  descubra por sí mismo las alucinantes experiencias que vivirán en la casa…

MI RESEÑA 🙂

 

Escogí y empecé este libro con la más alta de las expectativas porque la sinopsis de éste me resultó simplemente irresistible y suelen tentarme también las lecturas no tan recientes porque me gusta sumergirme en un ambiente diferente, antiguo, en el que los lugares, los objetos cotidianos y las personas a veces son difíciles de imaginar pero la autora te permite conocer todo esto de manera muy nítida.

En esta novela, conoceremos al Doctor Montague, un doctor en filosofía y antropólogo  que tiene fuertes inclinaciones hacia lo difícil de explicar y las perturbaciones psíquicas, y está decidido a hacerle reconocer al mundo que los lugares encantados y las presencias de espíritus en ellos son reales, esto lo pretende conseguir documentando las anomalías de casas embrujadas y publicando un libro en el que se expongan estas experiencias y sin dejar lugar a dudas de que él es un hombre de ciencia (lo cual, por supuesto, es muy complicado dada la naturaleza opuesta entre la ciencia y la experiencia paranormal). Con este propósito se da a la tarea de buscar algún sitio que tenga antecedentes con estas características perturbadoras hasta que… encuentra Hill House.

La propietaria de este macabro lugar muestra cierta resistencia para alquilársela al doctor Montague, pero cuando éste finalmente consigue una respuesta positiva, emprende la búsqueda de ayudantes, por qué sus objetivos tan ambiciosos no puede alcanzarlos solo, ¿verdad? Aunque en el fondo el lector sabe que también se debe a que permanecer solo en una propiedad como Hill House que está bastante alejada del pueblo más cercano no es algo que le entusiasme.

Así que empieza a reclutar ayudantes que ha descubierto que tuvieron alguna experiencia paranormal en algún momento de sus vidas, y las únicas personas que accedieron a embarcarse en  este singular proyecto son Eleanor Vance (una mujer frágil en muchos aspectos)  Theodora (una mujer más independiente y resuelta con un poder muy especial) y Luke, el sobrino de la propietaria y futuro heredero de la propiedad (el que el chico este ahí fue una de las condiciones que puso la dueña para alquilar el lugar).

La primera noche, el doctor Montague les cuenta a sus nuevos ayudantes sus objetivos de estar ahí, que es lo que espera de cada uno de ellos y algunos de los misterios detrás de Hill House: Quienes fueron los que construyeron la casa y para qué, a manos de quién fue a terminar la casa y porqué, algunos datos curiosos como que los ángulos de la casa no son exactos y que esas ligeras variantes que por separado son prácticamente imperceptibles, ya observando la casa en conjunto hace que tenga esa apariencia tan particular y tenebrosa. Comparte también las extrañas muertes de quienes vivieron ahí, historias trágicas,  suicidios y como las personas que intentan marcharse mueren de formas extrañas.

Al principio las chicas mantienen una buena relación y eso hace sentir confianza a Eleanor, pero una serie de eventos que irán viviendo en el transcurrir de los días (bueno, sobre todo en las noches) harán que ese vínculo se vaya deteriorando por extraños cambios que se van desarrollando en Eleanor.

Una novela con mucha tensión psicológica y juegos mentales en la que vas avanzando sin tener muy claro hasta qué punto lo que está ocurriendo es real o es la imaginación de los inquilinos, sobre todo de Eleanor, sobre quien parece ceñirse más la maldición de la casa, fusionando el difícil pasado de la chica con su confuso presente de maneras muy macabras y psicológicamente insoportables para ella. Sus frustraciones en sí mismas ya crean un ambiente de intranquilidad y claustrofobia.

La primera mitad del libro parece que solo hay trivialidades inconexas y nada parece tener demasiado sentido, pero la autora empezará a tomar todos esos hilos sueltos y tejerlos de tal forma que el resultado es inesperado y magistral.

Disfruté mucho la profundidad de la historia porque los elementos de fantasmas y actividad paranormal son solo una excusa que deja espacio para especular y sacar tus propias conclusiones. En mi opinión, la esencia del libro trata del miedo a los demás y a uno mismo, a la soledad, el rechazo y la vida sin sentido, la represión y las grandes transformaciones que se pueden sufrir cuando la mente está sometida a una fuerte tensión psicológica, a lo que no entendemos y que está fuera de nuestro control. Habla de los efectos a corto y largo plazo que tienen las personas lo traumas de la infancia, los maltratos, las obsesiones, los sentimientos de culpa y otras experiencias que se albergan en lo más profundo del corazón y la mente.

Una lectura interesante también para los lectores que sienten curiosidad por las grandes obras del pasado que inspiraron a autores actuales exitosos internacionalmente como Stephen King. Además de ser la novela perfecta para empezar este mes de octubre ;).

Una joya para los amantes del terror y suspenso psicológico, que ha ganado a pulso su corona como una de las mejores novelas de terror escritas jamás.
