Sinopsis del libro:
Dos neurocientíficos y dos teólogos se reúnen en torno a una mesa redonda para analizar un tema fascinante: la mente de Jesús.

Los debates en torno a los análisis de Marco polo son seguidos por miles de espectadores en todo el mundo a través de internet, pero no todos están preparados para ver a Jesús bajo una óptica tan revolucionaria. Ahora los intelectuales tendrán que lidiar con sus propios fantasmas y encarar peligros que jamás esperaron.

Una de la cosas que más disfruto de trabajar con libros, son las sugerencias que otros lectores me hacen y que resultan ser increíbles, este es uno de esos. Empecé la lectura con mucha impaciencia (hasta lo pedí prestado porque no lo tenía a la mano) porque me hablaron de él con tanta emoción que me la contagiaron.
Esta novela es también un trabajo de investigación del autor, que es psiquiatra y ha escrito libros sobre las enfermedades mentales más actuales (como la serie de Ansiedad, que también estoy impaciente por leer) y quiso documentar su investigación en forma de novela, que en mi opinión lo hizo para llegar a un público más amplio, ya que a veces los libros que parecen muy formales o muy técnicos no atraen a tanta gente, pero en fin, me pareció una buena estrategia para hacer el libro más ameno y fluido.
Esta historia habla de un psiquiatra llamado Marco Polo que perdió a su esposa, trastocando su vida de forma profunda, llevándolo a una crisis existencial que le hace poner en duda su desempeño como padre, como profesional e incluso como persona. El trabajo de Marco Polo es reconocido por todo el mundo, llevando sus conocimientos a congresos internacionales a los que es invitado constantemente.
La forma de Marco Polo de comunicar sus conocimientos es muy interesante, porque es estimulante y a la vez confrontante, muy provocadora, que te empuja a cuestionarte tus paradigmas y la forma que has elegido de vivir, de evadir y de responsabilizarte de tu vida, sobre todo en el área emocional, poniendo el acento en el alarmante significado y las consecuencias que tiene el no cuidar nuestra salud mental y emocional, cuyas repercusiones van desde la vida personal hasta la social y mundial.
Marco Polo afirma que ser gestor de la mente humana es saber controlar los pensamientos, proteger la emoción, liberar la creatividad y volverse protagonista de la propia historia. Y para formar seres humanos con estas capacidades la educación debe dar un giro importante, que necesita pasar de la era de la información a la era del yo como gestor de la mente humana. Porque tenemos niños con numerosos conocimientos de muchas áreas, pero con una gran carencia de educación emocional, lo que les impide aprender a gestionar sus emociones, incluso ser felices, y puede llegar a entorpecer, opacar e incluso anular otras capacidades importantes. Y, a pesar de esto, el área de educación emocional sigue siendo muy ignorada y subestimada. Las personas mentalmente sanas aprenden a pensar colectivamente, a ser altruistas, a colocarse en el lugar del otro y a ser tolerantes a las frustraciones.
La vida de Marco Polo está por dar un giro a su vida que le llevará, ahora, a cuestionarse a sí mismo. Es un neurocientífico ateo que no cree en la existencia de Dios y conoce a un par de teólogos que defienden con toda la convicción que Jesús no fue un personaje mítico y de verdad existió. Pero Marco Polo tiene una propuesta única e interesante de abordar el tema de tal forma que se pueda explorar la historia de Jesús que resulte de interés y utilidad para los participantes.
Decide crear una mesa redonda en la que él, haciendo alianza con un reconocido neurocientífico que es amigo suyo, debates con dos preparados teólogos. Pero este espacio no está destinado a confirmar o refutar la existencia de Dios, sino a un tema poco tocado y, arriesgado: Analizar la inteligencia de Jesús, desde una perspectiva psicológica, pedagógica, cognitiva y emocional, observándolo como si fuera una persona promedio, teniendo por herramienta y referencia la información que la Biblia proporciona de él.
Ambas posturas ponen manos a la obra e investigan exhaustivamente por diferentes medios la figura de Jesús y sacan sus conclusiones, las que exponen en la mesa redonda, aprendiendo mucho más de lo que un inicio hubieran podido siquiera imaginar. Tocando temas como el poder, la educación, el liderazgo, el ego, el amor, las expectativas, el silencio… Este libro es una bomba.
Me gustó mucho este libro porque expone claramente que nuestro intelecto es un vehículo mental complejo y lo dirigimos de forma irresponsable, también nos ofrece herramientas, estrategias y ejemplos para empezar con nuestras deficiencias emocionales y mentales, con el fin de mejorar nuestra calidad de vida, porque si empezamos por ahí, evoluciona todo lo demás y muchas áreas de nuestra vida pueden verse beneficiadas.
Quiero destacar que este no es un libro religioso, y obedece a la premisa de la mesa redonda que presenta la historia: no pretende rechazar o afirmar la existencia de Dios. Independientemente de cuál sea tu postura en cuanto a estos polémicos temas, estoy segura de que es un libro del que aprenderás muchísimo, aunque paradójicamente, en algunos aspectos, te dejará con más preguntas que respuestas, que tu tendrás la tarea de encontrar… para encontrarte 🙂
