El desfile más famoso del planeta. Una niña de tres años desaparecida. ¿Dónde está Kiera Templeton?

En 2003, el día que Kiera habría cumplido ocho años, sus padres, Aaron y Grace Templeton, reciben en casa un extraño paquete: una cinta VHS con la grabación de un minuto de Kiera jugando en una habitación desconocida.
Tras vender más de 650 000 ejemplares de sus anteriores novelas, Javier Castillo vuelve a poner en jaque la cordura con La chica de nieve, un oscuro viaje a las profundidades de Miren Triggs, una estudiante de periodismo que inicia una investigación paralela y descubre que tanto su vida como la de Kiera están llenas de incógnitas.

Javier Castillo es un autor que ha sabido posicionarse en el mundo del thriller en los últimos años, he leído opiniones tan interesantes como opuestas de sus libros y ya tenía tiempo queriendo conocer sus letras, y cuando me decidí por su último libro, “El juego del alma” con leer la primera página tuve la sensación de que se trataba de una segunda parte, así que en un vistazo rápido en internet confirmé que así era, por lo que me decidí por la primera parte de éste: La chica de nieve.
Al leer la sinopsis de este libro me di cuenta enseguida de que si la pluma de Javier era buena y ágil iba a gustarme, ya que es el tipo de tramas que me envuelven y que disfruto siempre.
La chica de nieve empieza con la misteriosa desaparición de Kiera Templeton, una niña que al día siguiente cumpliría 3 años y que desapareció durante el enorme desfile de día de acción de gracias, fecha que la familia debía disfrutar y volver memorable, en cambio se convirtió en la peor pesadilla que unos padres pueden vivir.
Todos están tras la pista de Kiera, puesto que una niña de casi 3 años no puede evaporarse como si nunca hubiera existido, ¿o sí? El único hallazgo de esa desesperada búsqueda ha sido la ropa de Kiera y unos mechones de su cabello encontrados en un rincón no muy lejos del sitio de su desaparición.
Aunque el caso llegó a causar revuelo nacionalmente, con el paso de los años poco a poco se enfría y una sola persona mantiene su compromiso (además de los padres, por supuesto) de encontrar a Kiera Templeton: la perspicaz periodista Miren Triggs.
Los padres casi enloquecen, ven su vida y su futuro desmoronarse porque les falta su pequeña, nunca pierden la fe de encontrarla. Un incierto pero luminoso rayito de esperanza llega a ellos en el cumpleaños número 8 de Kiera, en forma de una cinta VHS en la que aparece Kiera jugando, al que ellos se aferran y del que Miren sigue la pista insistente y tenazmente, ¿podrá Miren, sin apoyo ni recursos del gobierno y las autoridades competentes encontrar a Kiera?
Pienso que la justicia es un tema del que es difícil (por no decir imposible) hablar sin que desate polémica, y me ha parecido muy acertada e interesante la manera de mirarla y expresarla del autor, te deja pensando mucho en el tema.
Aunque este año he salido muchísimo de mi zona de confort literaria, siempre me encanta volver a ella, al género que conozco y en el que me siento tan cómoda y feliz. Creo que nunca dejaré de disfrutar las emociones intensas que me despierta un buen thriller. Aunque quizá suene extraño, me han enseñado mucho y siento un afecto especial por él, porque con éste género que puede llegar a ser turbio empecé a volverme adicta a las novelas, al misterio y a sumergirme en todos los mundos posibles que ofrecen los libros.
Tardé mucho en leer por primera vez a Javier Castillo y me ha encantado, pronto tendrán por aquí “El juego del alma”, que ya estoy ansiosa por leer, porque Miren es un personaje valiente, fuerte y resiliente, que a pesar de vivir una experiencia dolorosa, emergió de las profundidades y de la oscuridad para florecer más fuerte y brillante. Definitivamente merece una segunda parte su historia.
Recientemente leí que Netflix adaptará “La chica de nieve” en serie, esto me tiene muy emocionada porque una película estoy segura de que me quedaría debiendo bastante, en cambio una serie creo que puede hacer un trabajo más extenso y digno de un thriller tan intenso y 5 estrellas como éste.
Así que ya sabes, si eres un amante de los libros de misterio exigente como yo, “La chica de nieve” debe estar en tu biblioteca, lo devorarás también 😉
