Sinopsis del libro:
En 1947 Juan Rulfo dirige dos cartas a su novia, Clara Aparicio, donde le dice que está escribiendo algo que se llamaría “Una estrella junto a la luna”. Es la primera noticia que tenemos de Pedro Páramo,l novela que escribirá con su segunda beca del Centro Mexicano de Escritores (septiembre de 1953 a julio de 1954). Se refiere a sus avances en dos informes dirigidos a ese Centro, donde lee los fragmentos que va escribiendo. Al mismo tiempo publica adelantes en tres revistas: en marzo de 1954 en “Las letras Patrias” (los dos fragmentos iniciales, aún con el título de “Una estrella junto a la luna); en junio en la revista Universidad de México (dos fragmentos intermedios, anunciados como “Los murmullos”) y en septiembre en “Dintel” (los tres fragmentos finales, bajo el nombre de “Comala”). En diciembre Alfonso Reyes anuncia la próxima aparición de la obra, en la que adelante: “Influencias (conscientes o inconscientes): veintitantos siglos de literatura”.
Se termina de imprimir el 19 de marzo de 1955, y Edmundo Valadés (será el primero) consigna así su aparición: “Desconcertante, lista a inquietar a la crítica, está ya en los escaparates la primera novela de Juan Rulfo, “Pedro Páramo”, que transcurre en una serie de transposiciones oníricas, ahondando más allá de la muerte de sus personajes, que uno no sabe en qué momento son sueño, vida, fábula, verdad…”
Para Jorge Luis Borges Pedro Páramo era “una de las mejores novelas de las literaturas de lengua hispánica, y aún de la literatura”.
Se ha traducido a más de 40 idiomas y es la creación literaria mexicana más conocida y mejor valorada en el mundo.

Al comenzar a leer los libros planeados para el especial de este mes, el que más me entusiasmaba era éste, Pedro Páramo de Juan Rulfo, autor que también es reconocido por captar en fotografías la belleza de México de una forma tan distinguida que pocos más han conseguido.
La mayoría coincide en que éste es el libro más importante y representativo de México, más incluso que “El laberinto de la soledad” del mismísimo Octavio Paz, quién ha sido el único escritor mexicano galardonado con el Premio Nobel de Literatura.
Además, tiene uno de los comienzos de novela más famosos y recordados por muchísima gente: “Vine a Comala porque me dijeron que acá vivía mi padre, un tal Pedro Páramo”. Y partiendo de éstas palabras tan memorables, comienza una historia que será difícil borrar de mi memoria y que me mantuvo confundida más de una vez.
Después de la muerte de su madre, nuestro protagonista va en busca de su padre, por petición ella, que imploró como último deseo que encontrara a Pedro Páramo y “le hiciera pagar caro su abandono”.
Aunque llegar a este desconocido sitio se llevó sorpresas que le costaba entender (bueno, nos. A mí también), personas que están, pero no están. La historia mágica de un pueblo que antes era bullicioso ahora es desierto. Conoce gente que era cercana su padre pero que murió hace tiempo. ¿quiénes son? ¿por qué están intentando ayudarle?
A través de los ojos de toda esta gente que tuvo contacto con Pedro Páramo, para bien o para mal, descubriendo distintas facetas de su persona, nuestro protagonista conoce quien fue su padre. Un hombre complejo que tenía un peso importante e incuestionable en el pueblo.
Me gustó mucho lo mexicano de este libro: la manera de hablar de la gente, las costumbres, la vestimenta, las tradiciones… En unos puntos me hacía pensar en el libro del que escribí la reseña pasada (Como agua para chocolate). Así bien mexicanos con realismo mágico. Aunque, a pesar de sus similitudes, son lecturas muy distintas entre sí. Parece que me estoy contradiciendo, pero reconocerás esta delgada línea cuando leas estos libros 🙂
Reconozco que, en mi experiencia lectora, el realismo mágico no es mi fuerte y me cuesta seguirle el paso porque esta fusión de lo “normal” con lo sobrenatural o mágico me desconcierta, pero esta deficiencia en mi muchas veces escaso entendimiento del género, no me impidió disfrutarlo mucho. No había leído nada igual. Y ahora entiendo porque Borges tuvo este diálogo con Rulfo que me emociona tanto, te la dejaré por aquí para que la disfrutes tú también 😉
Borges visitó México en tres ocasiones: en 1973, 1978 y 1981. Fue durante su primera visita que Juan Rulfo, escritor mexicano, y Borges sostuvieron un diálogo:
Rulfo: Maestro, soy yo, Rulfo. Qué bueno que ya llegó. Usted sabe cómo lo estimamos y lo admiramos. Borges: Finalmente, Rulfo. Ya no puedo ver un país, pero lo puedo escuchar. Y escucho tanta amabilidad. Ya había olvidado la verdadera dimensión de esta gran costumbre. Pero no me llame Borges y menos «maestro», dígame Jorge Luis.
Rulfo: ¡Qué amable! Usted dígame entonces Juan.
Borges: Le voy a ser sincero. Me gusta más Juan que Jorge Luis, con sus cuatro letras tan breves y tan definitivas. La brevedad ha sido siempre una de mis predilecciones.
Rulfo: No, eso sí que no. Juan cualquiera, pero Jorge Luis, sólo Borges.
Borges: Usted tan atento como siempre. Dígame, cómo ha estado últimamente?
Rulfo: ¿Yo? Pues muriéndome, muriéndome por ahí.
Borges: Entonces no le ha ido tan mal.
Rulfo: ¿Cómo así?
Borges: Imagínese, don Juan, lo desdichado que seríamos si fuéramos inmortales.
Rulfo: Sí, verdad. Después anda uno por ahí muerto haciendo como si estuviera uno vivo.
