El día de hoy es el día del libro infantil y juvenil, en conmemoración al natalicio de Hans Christian Andersen, el escritor danés que creó algunos de los personajes más internacionales de la literatura (ya sabes: la sirenita, el soldadito de plomo…). Y bueno, ya saben como funcionan las cosas por aquí 😊
Yo pienso que los libros para niños son sólo libros para niños y no merecen ser subestimados. Einstein decía que si quieres que tus hijos seas inteligentes les leas cuentos de hadas, y si quieres que sean más inteligentes, leas muchos cuentos de hadas, y yo creo también en la sabiduría que encierran esas historias
“El libro que se muere”, la historia sobre la que compartiré hoy, parece muy inofensivo cuando lo ves paciente esperando a que alguien lo abra en el librero. Quizá por eso me agarró por sorpresa su contenido profundo y personal que desde el primer capítulo ya me había tocado las fibras más sensibles. Es un libro de historias cortas que aborda el tema de la muerte, y cómo los niños intentan darle sentido de formas peculiares que muchas veces los adultos no entienden y las maliterpretan como conductas indeseables o que el niño lo hace para llamar la atención. En una etapa tan delicada como el duelo por la muerte de un ser querido, surgen miedos e ideas infantiles que tienden a manifestarse de formas extrañas, y que con un poco de comprensión, empatía y compañía, se esclarecen, por lo que estas historias, para los adultos, considero que pueden funcionar para ser un poco más sensibles y observadores ante estas inquietudes, ya que de no acompañarse y gestionarse de forma sana, pueden tener consecuencias importantes para los niños que pueden persistir en la vida adulta.
Hablar de la muerte con los niños no es sencillo, y los libros muchas veces pueden ser herramientas poderosas para que, junto con nuestra compañía, empatía y nuestro diálogo, el niño pueda darle sentido a algo tan complejo. Aunque yo pienso que los niños están mucho más preparados para la verdad de lo que nosotros queremos pensar. Quienes no están preparados muchas veces somos nosotros. Los padres. Los adultos.
Es una lectura recomendada para niños a partir de 11 años, y mi sugerencia es que antes de que tu niño lo lea, lo leas tu primero, para que puedas estar en contexto y entenderlo para las preguntas que indudablemente puedan surgir en tu niño.
Pienso que es un libro valiente. Un libro con el que es fácil identificarte porque puedes detectar que el autor puso su corazón en él y, como menciona, se permitió no solo llorar con sus manos que acarician, sino también con palabras que ahora comparte con sus lectores. Me pareció hermosa su manera de abordar el tema, aunque es difícil de reconocer lo permanente y dolorosa que es la muerte, los humanos somos rebeldes y sostenemos que mientras recordemos a las personas que amamos, ellas nunca morirán, y esa permanencia se volverá también a nuestro recuerdo. Me quedaron sus palabras grabadas en el corazón y la mente: Es importante llorar juntos, con la certeza de que no estamos solos.
Pienso en todos esos libros que leí desde que aprendí a interpretar y dar sentido a los signos impresos de tinta en las hojas para convertirlas en palabras dentro de mi cabeza, y en cómo, desde entonces, me han acompañado cuando en el entorno había demasiado ruido o demasiado silencio.
Gracias por estar aquí y por leer conmigo. Al acompañarme, haces feliz también a la niña que alguna vez fui y que se refugiaba entre las páginas de los libros. Desde entonces ya sabía que formarían parte de mi vida para siempre (como dice el autor de este libro, ya era un poco adivina desde entonces).
